Use of Personal Communication Devices in School |
Students shall not possess personal communication devices, such as pagers and cellular phones, while on school property or while attending a school-sponsored activity on or off school property, unless the student has a permit and is on active duty as a member of a volunteer fire fighting organization or a volunteer emergency medical service organization. In order to obtain a permit, the minor must have a secured signed consent from one of his/her parents or legal guardian(s).
A "personal communication device" is a device that emits an audible signal, vibrates, displays a message, or otherwise summons or delivers a communication to the possessor.
A person who discovers a student in possession of a personal communication device shall report the violation to the principal.
During school hours, including bus duty, cell phones are not to be in use. All cell phones will be confiscated if they are visible during the school day, including bus duty. The following disciplinary actions will take place if the policy is broken.
Offenses
1st Offense: Central Office keeps phone for 5 days.
2nd Offense: Central Office keeps the phone for 10 days.
3rd Offense: Suspended to alternative school for 5 days
and Central Office keeps phone for 1 month.
4th Offense: Viewed as defiance and charged a Category III Offense
for repeated violation of school rules.
